Ruth L. Parsons

HICKORY, N.C. - Ruth L. Parsons, 95, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 in Hickory, N.C. She was born October 20, 1919 in Sardis, Ala. to the late Walter William Langston and Maggie Eunice McCoy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Parsons, Jr.; two grandchildren, Courtney Leigh Parsons and Jordan Christopher Barnette; five sisters and two brothers. They had five children who survived them, Marshall Parsons, III (Linwood, N.C.), Gordon Terry Parsons (Acworth, Ga.), Richard Alva Parsons (Dover, Del.), James Donn Parsons (St. Petersburg, Fla.), and Harriet Ann Barnette (Hickory, N.C.); sister, Gertrude Cutchen; 14 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Raised near Selma, Ala., she graduated from High School in 1937. Ruth lived in many locations including 30 years in Miami, Fla., ten years in Dover, Del. with the last stop in Hickory, N.C. She was a dedicated wife with many talents, which include, a magnificent quilter, masterful gardener, unsurpassed role model for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as others in the community. She was a faithful member and participant in the Mormon Church. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N.
