MILFORD - Ruth Ann Adkins passed away at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014. She was 85. Ruth Ann was born on June 5, 1929 in Frederica, daughter of the late William Marion Stevenson, who became the first family court judge in Delaware, and Ruth Adams Stevenson. Ruth Ann was a graduate of the University of Delaware and was employed as an elementary school teacher for several years before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was always a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed working with various arts and crafts projects, gardening, cooking and baking, traveling, and playing bridge with friends but nothing pleased her more than spending quality time with her family. Ruth Ann was a member of Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford, and had been an active member of the Milford Hospital Women's Auxiliary for many years, serving a term as a chairperson of the annual Hospital Fair. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dr. William O. Adkins. She is survived by a son, Chris Adkins and his wife Glenda; a daughter, Leslie Johnson, all of Milford; four grandchildren, Jason Adkins and his wife Jordan, Matthew Johnson and his wife Elizabeth, Jaclyn Adkins, and Stephanie Johnson; and her friend and caregiver, Gladys. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford. Burial followed the services in the Milford Community Cemetery on Route 113. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE, 19963 or to Alzheimer's Association, 240 N. James St, Suite 100A, Newport, DE, 19804. Condolences may be emailed to rogersfh@del.net
