Ruby L. Coon peacefully left her mortal body Monday, Sept. 3, 2018 at the wonderful age of 90 and arrived home through the gates of Heaven to join her husband, Roland F. Coon who preceded her 19 years ago.
Ruby worked for the Lansing School District for twenty-five years and was a member of Mt. Hope Church in Lansing, Mich. where she served as a Sunday school teacher, worked with the Charles Colson Prison Ministry and served wherever needed. Her home served as a Foster care home for adults who needed love and a place to live. In 1987 they retired and moved to Camden to support their son in the ministry at Calvary Assembly of God and be close to family. Ruby found her greatest joy in serving others, whether babysitting her grandchildren, teaching Sunday School, nursery work, CCA lunch and afterschool care, making sandwiches for G-Team, or sorting food or clothing for the food bank or Thanksgiving Feast.
Ruby's hobby was going to yard sales. She could see beauty or value in things others had discarded. I guess you could say she redeemed that which was rejected. This passion overflowed into her spiritual walk not only as a prayer warrior but as she invested her life to helping the needy, homeless, prisoners, or broken in life to find a redeemer in Jesus.
Those who will carry on her legacy are son, Rev. Roland G. Coon and wife Angela; and daughter, Star Snowman and husband, Carl Snowman; five grandchildren, Aaron and wife Jen, Renee and husband Sean Fishburne, Ryan and wife Rachel, Tammi and Fiance' Ron Provorse, and Heather and wife Dana; and ten great-grandchildren, Chloe, Taylor, Tyler, Maielle, Ryland, Conner, Ava, Aneicia, Mason and newborn Ruby.
A Celebration of Ruby's Life and Legacy will be Thursday, Sept. 6. 2018 at 12 p.m. with a viewing for family and friends between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Calvary Church, 1141 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Benevolence Ministry of Calvary Church in Ruby's memory.
Special thanks to Seasons Hospice for their special care for Ruby in her last month and the Benevolence Ministry at Calvary Church for their support and care. Thank you to everyone for your loving emails, cards and words on Social Media.
Letters of condolences may be sent and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
