Rosalind A. Hicks

CAMDEN - Rosalind A. Hicks was born on Dec. 1, 1948 in the District of Columbia. She is the youngest child born to the union of the late Philip E. Blakey and Mary E. Blakey. A sister to Donald Blakey, Noel Blakey and Brenda Ashe. She received her early education in the District of Columbia's public schools, graduating from Roosevelt High School. After graduating from high school, she attended Delaware State College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics Education. As a Delaware State College cheerleader, Rosalind captured the attention of her husband of 43 years. Rosalind married Clarence Wallace Hicks, Jr. on Jun. 17, 1972. Her union with Clarence produced two daughters, Twyla and Kia and granddaughter Sydney. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she was a dedicated educator for over 40 years. She worked in various capacities both in and out of the classroom. She retired from the Capital School District in 2014. Rosalind was diagnosed with cancer in Feb. of 2014. With grace and courage she fought until her last breath. She transitioned to her heavenly home on Apr. 18, 2015. Her memorial services will be held on Sat., May 2, 2015 from 11-12:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion A.M.E church 101 N. Queen Street Dover, DE 19904, followed by the Repast at 1:30 p.m. at Benny Smith's Funeral Home 717 W. Division Street Dover, DE 19904.
