Roger E. Blanchfield

SMYRNA - Roger E. Blanchfield passed away peacefully after a short, courageous battle with cancer at Delaware Hospice Center on Sunday, July 24, 2016. He was surrounded by family and friends. Roger was born Jan. 31, 1938 to Elmer and Nina Blanchfield of Townsend. He was a U.S army veteran. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic at Playtex in Dover for 34 years. Roger enjoyed watching westerns and spending time with family and friends. He was also an avid Phillies and Eagles fan. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Joan D. Blanchfield; daughter, Brenda Iannone; and son, Roger E. Blanchfield, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Helen O'neal-Blanchfield; daughter, Carol Lee and Frazier Carney; sons, Rodney E. Blanchfield, John and Joan Blanchfield, and Barry E. Blanchfield; granddaughters, Brenda, Amanda and Alta; grandsons, Jason, Adam, Daniel, Travis, and Levi; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Etta and Alice; and his brother, Brett. The viewing will be held on Wednesday evening, July 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 28 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
