SMYRNA - Rodney Lee Sayers went to be with the Lord on Wednesday January 27, 2021. He was surrounded by his family, in the home of his late Grandma June and Grandpa Leroy Sayers, after a very courageous battle with cancer.
Rodney was born on January 13, 1971 in Dover, Delaware, to his parents Ron and Ellen Sayers, also from Smyrna.
Rodney feared nothing, and was not afraid of hard work or helping others. He had a very fun-loving, adventurous, Evil Knievel kind of spirit. He was truly one of a kind, and he will be sorely missed.
In his younger years he enjoyed riding dirt bikes, four wheelers, and motorcycles. He spent time as a volunteer fire fighter with the Citizens Hose Company of Smyrna, he spent years crabbing in the Delaware Bay, years working in his parents Jewelry store, and years as a Welder in the Boilermaker Union.
In his later days, he enjoyed fishing, playing music on his guitars, spending time with his family, and riding his new scooter. Rodney was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leroy and June Sayers of Smyrna, Jeannette and Harry Killen of Leipsic, and many of his friends.
He is survived by his parents, Ron and Ellen Sayers; his daughters, Jessica June Sayers (Husband, Billy Jackson) and Madison Leigh Sayers; brothers, Ronald W. Sayers (Billie Jo), Thomas K. Sayers (Melissa); nephew, Harry Sayers; nieces, Alison Sayers, Amber Sayers; aunt, Sis Killen; grandchildren, Emma June Jackson, William Allen Jackson, III; his companion, Tracy Ayala; and many others that he considered as family, such as Daniel Reynolds, the Lowman family, the Sandor family, many extended family members and his special Mary Mary.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Faries Funeral Chapel at 29 S. Main St. Smyrna. A second viewing will be held on Wednesday February 3, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Services will begin at 12 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
For those who cannot attend, a live webcast of the services can be viewed starting at 12 p.m. on Wednesday February 3, 2021 by visiting the Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium, Inc. Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest contributions to the Citizens Hose Company, in Smyrna.
Condolences may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com
