SMYRNA - Robert Michael Comollo passed away on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 at home.
Bob was born on Oct. 19, 1947 in Staten Island, N.Y. to the late Arthur John Comollo and Cecelia McCaffrey Comollo. He graduated from Seton Hall University in 1969.
A 25-year employee of the Dover Downs as the controller for the finance department, Bob took an early retirement in 2003 to spend more time with his children. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and as a member of the Parish Council and School Board. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Bob loved books, golf, travel, and-most of all-family. He and his wife, Betsy (whom he met while taking scuba lessons), were married for 24 years. Despite being "musically challenged" himself, he loved nothing more than listening to his children's musical performances. Bob especially enjoyed vacations with Betsy and their children in Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y., where they hiked, canoed, and relaxed on the dock. He recently said, "Life is great. If you don't have fun, it's a shame-it's a beautiful world."
Bob was a humble and thoughtful man, whose advice was sought by many who knew him. He was compassionate, slow to anger, and kind to all. His high school yearbook described him as "good old dependable Bob."
Bob is survived by his wife, Betsy Fearnow of Smyrna; children, Matthew Robert and Laura Lin Comollo, both of Smyrna; siblings, John Comollo (Carmen) of Las Vegas, Nev., Carolyn Comollo Chandler (Dennis) of Solomons Island, Md., Dolores Argyrou (Manny), Linda Buritt (David), all of Dover, and Lorraine Preziosi (Michael) of Wyckoff, N.J.; brother and sister-in-law, Edgar C. Fearnow, III (Bobbi) of Lititz, Pa.; and father-in-law, Edgar C. Fearnow (Betty) of Summerfield, Fla.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday evening at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Interment will be in Barrett's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018, Washington, DC 20090-8018; Amazima Ministries, PO Box 682521, Franklin, TN 37068; or Amigos de Jesus, 126 Woodland Avenue, Malvern, PA 19355.
Letters of condolences may be sent and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
