Robert Lee "Woodie" Wood, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 72. Robert was born September 27, 1941, in Dexter, Mo. to the late Wilford W. and Wilma Wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Louise Wood. "Woodie", as he was known to everyone, attended Felton High School. He spent most of his working career as a carpenter. He retired from Palmer Construction in 2005, after 25 years of service. "Woodie" was a very talented carpenter and enjoyed wood working, NASCAR, football; especially the Baltimore Ravens, working in his yard and more importantly spending time with his family. He served over 55 years in the Felton Volunteer Fire Company and was a former member of the VCF Ruritan Club, where he held several offices. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Jo; daughter, Donna Kay Gunkel and her husband William of Bear; son, R. Douglas Wood and his wife Regina of Felton; two grandchildren, Jessica Gunkel and Robert D. Wood II; two brothers, William Wood and wife Sandy and David Wood and wife Jeannie all of Felton. Also several nieces, nephews and many extended family members and friends. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, April 19, 2014 in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, Main Street Felton, where friends may call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2014 for a viewing. Interment will be at Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Felton Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 946, Felton, DE 19943 or Delaware Hospice Center 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963.
