FREDERICA - Robert L. Smith, Sr. passed away, Friday, August 27, 2021 at home.
Mr. Smith was born June 23, 1933 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Roy Smith and Phebe Walls Smith.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War in Panama Canal. Mr. Smith was a truck driver for Preston Trucking for 34 years, retiring in 1995 and had received an award from Preston Trucking for 2 Million Mile Safe Driving. He was a school bus driver for Lake Forest School District and had received Driver of the Month Award from the State of Delaware.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Tribitt.
He is survived by son, Robert L. Smith, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Coon Rapids, Minn.; daughter, Victoria Lynn Rigney and her husband Clyde of Frederica; and adopted daughter, Dianna Lynn Irwin and her husband Scot of Frederica; Becky Kennard and her husband Robert of Felton; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening and 1-2 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
