MILFORD - Robert John Gilewski, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at the Delaware Veterans Home. Mr. Gilewski was born in Melrose, Mass., the son of the late Walter Joseph and Jennie Mary (Wilk) Gilewski. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Robert worked at the Dover Air Force Base as a Shift Supervisor for 30 years before retiring in 1988. He was a former member of the Milford Elks Lodge and the Harrington Moose Lodge. He enjoyed doing yard work and loved working around the house. He also was a little league coach in Milford for several years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Gilewski; and a sister, Eleanor Adams. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen Dianne Gilewski; three daughters, Elaine Campbell and her husband Jim of Kitty Hawk, N.C., Tracie Hitchens and her husband Randy of Georgetown, and Jan Bowman and her husband Joe of Milford; one son, Richard Gilewski and his wife Teresa of Milford; and four grandchildren, Brittney Gilewski, Jenna Hitchens, Brian Gilewski and Laura Campbell. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2009, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Avenue, Milford. Friends may call from 12 - 2:45 p.m. on Sunday at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery, N. Walnut Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimers Association of Delaware, P.O. Box 625, Georgetown, DE 19947.
