DOVER - Robert H. Carver of Dover, passed away September 8, 2015 at home. He was 86. Mr. Carver was born May 24, 1929 in Newport, Delaware to the late Ewing Carver and Sara Fowler Carver. He served in the United States Army, 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean War Conflict including 18 months of combat in Korea defending his Country. He reached the rank of Technical Sergeant before his honorable discharge in August of 1953. Mr. Carver worked for Claymont Steel and Hanover Shoes before starting a long career with Kinney Shoes with over 25 years as a Manager. Mr. Carver retired in 1994. Among the many things he enjoyed in life was a day at the beach, a good parade and spending as much time as he could with his family and friends. Mr. Carver was a former member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Wilmington, Asbury Methodist Church in New Castle, Emilie United Methodist Church in Levittown, Pa. and most recently associated with New Harvest Baptist Church of Dover. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, William, Eugene and Lawrence Carver; and sister, Betty Prowant. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Catharine Carver of Dover; son, Robert Carver of Wilmington; daughters, Robbin Trimble and her husband Roger of Dover, Margaret Clayton and her husband Wesley of Newark, Catharine Lyons and her husband Terry of Smyrna, Kimberly Hazzard and her husband Patrick Keefe of Newark, Cynthia Hazzard of Dover; sister, Eunice Hardman of Finksburg, Md.; grandchildren, Shannon Keenan, Rian Davis, Sarah Coakley, Rachael Nimon, and Laura Clayton; great grandchildren, Jonathan Keenan, Elijah Nimon, Rebekah Coakley, Judah Nimon, Matthew Coakley, Jael Nimon and Aryel Nimon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, September, 14, 2015 and from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday morning. Interment will be immediately following the service at 1 p.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Day Break Mature Adult Care Services, 1121 Forrest Avenue, Dover, DE 19904 or the New Harvest Building Fund, 967 North State Street, Dover, DE 19901.
