SALISBURY, Md. - The Rev. Oris P. Fields Sr. of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, in Wicomico Nursing Home, Salisbury. He was 85.
He was born July 23, 1921, son of the late Oris G. and Margaret (Whaley) Fields.
The Rev. Fields served as a faithful pastor for 44 years at St. John's A.M.E. Zion Church at Ross Point, Laurel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ida (Doane) Fields on March 7, 1993; a son, William J. Doane on Sept. 1, 1998; two sisters, Hilda Smith and Frances McKnight; and a brother, Charles Fields.
He is survived by six children, Cleo Henry and her husband, Warren of Smyrna, Del., Maria West and her husband, James Sr. of Seaford, Del., Larry L. Fields Sr. and his wife, Deborah of Salisbury, Michael A. Fields Sr. and his wife, Carolyn of Salisbury, and Cresandre Barkley and her husband, Roscoe Jr. of Salisbury; 31 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ella C. Dixon of Salisbury; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Coles of Eden and Lettie DeShields of Princess Anne; many nieces, nephews and other family members; and a host of friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's A.M.E. Zion Church at Ross Point, Laurel, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Bishop Warren Brown will officiate.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may also call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the church.
