HARRINGTON - The Retired Rev. Ellsworth L. Coleman of Harrington departed this life Wednesday, May 16, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 81.

Born Nov. 23, 1925, in Harrington, he was the son of the late Hallie and Leah Coleman.

Ellsworth was a civil service employee at Dover Air Force Base for 15 years, and an ordained itinerate elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

He was pastor to three churches: Graham A.M.E. Church, Greenwood; Dickerson Chapel A.M.E., Millsboro; and Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, Ellendale. He retired in 1996.

Ellsworth was a civic-minded man, and had a great passion for the betterment of his people.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Quintella; a son, Ellsworth Jr.; and two brothers, Daniel "Roland" Coleman and Hallie Coleman Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Queenie Coleman; four daughters and three sons-in-law, the Rev. Bedelia and Frank Commodore of Barclay, Md., Cleo and Ernest Young of Harrington, Wanda and Glenn Scanes of Rockledge, Fla., and Vera Hunter of Dover; a son, Ivan Coleman of Harrington; a daughter-in-law, Irma Coleman of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and his wife, William and Minnie Hill of Dover; five sisters-in-law, Winnona Deputy of Harrington, Areletha Roberson of Browns Mills, N.J., Robin Wells of Harrington, Virginia Coleman of New York and Vandora Coleman of Georgia; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be Thursday, at 1 p.m., in St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 103 W. Mispillion St., Harrington. Interment will follow in Williamsville Cemetery.
