Dover – After more than 36 years experience in choreographing, performing and teaching dance, Regina Cooper-Conley danced a final performance on June 30, 2011 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. Born Nov. 23, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the daughter of Henrietta F. Dumas and the late Wilbert L. Cooper. Regina graduated from Dover High School, class of 1970. At Virginia State University where she studied African dance and performed with the Harambee Dancers, a changement occurred, Regina and dance were one. Her study of dance included internships with K0-Thi Dance Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the Caribbean Dance Company of the Virgin Islands at the Yard on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. The Atlantic City Dance Theater, DonDel Enterprises and So Rare Fine Arts Company are among the many performing arts organizations Regina has choreographed for and performed with. As a result of her devotion to dance, patience, perseverance, and poise were evident in every aspect of her life. With patience and care like a two-step she endeared students and clients to her in her many teaching and professional affiliations which have included the City of Dover Parks and Recreation, The Theatrical School of Dance, Dance Directions, the Dance Factory, Delaware State University, Lewes/Rehoboth DECASA, Lehigh Valley Dance Forum, The State of Delaware Division of Mental Retardation, DAFB Youth Center and Sankofa Dancers and Drummers. Regina has served terms on the boards of E'carte Dance Theater and the MidDel Chapter of the ARC of Delaware. In addition, she was a Teaching Artist for Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education (DIAE), and Delaware Wolftrap, DIAE's early learning through arts program. She has served on grant review panels for the State of Delaware Division of the Arts and on the Education Committee for the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts. She has also been a consultant and choreographer for dance ministries with area churches. With a swift arabesque she served 10 years in the Army National Guard where her perseverance earned her awards such as The Medal for Military Merit and The Delaware Army National Guard Physical Fitness Ribbon which she received every year she was active in the National Guard. Her most notable performance was a pas de deux with her husband of 21 years, Paul Conley whom she married on March, 10 1990. "Boo Boo," as he affectionately called her, will continue to dance in the hearts of her parents, John and Henrietta Dumas; children, Curtis Bordley Jr., of New Jersey, Nanette Bordley of Delaware, Anton, Osei, Oluwa and Ayo Conley also of Delaware; siblings, Jakki McKissick of Maryland, Vickie McKissick of Virginia, Monique Riddick, Anthony Dumas(Conseula), Annita Thomas(Michael) all of Delaware, Cynthia Bostick of California, Robert Dumas of New York and a host of relatives and friends. A memorial service celebrating Regina's life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 6th, at The Presbyterian Church of Dover, 54 South State Street, Dover, De 19901. In lieu of flowers make donations to Southern Delaware School of The Arts. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
