Millington, Md. - Read Earl Messick, Jr. died Wednesday July 13, 2016 at Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, Md. He was 61. Read E. Messick Jr. was born September 4, 1954 in Camp Kilmer, N.J. the son of the late Read Earl Messick, Sr. and Eleanor "McCabe". Read was a 1973 graduate of Lakeforest High School in Delaware. He went to work for Burris Food in Harrington, for several years before going into business for himself as a carpenter. In the mid 90's he went to work for Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home overseeing maintenance and repairs. Read eventually went back into business for himself operating Messick's Carpentry until his illness forced him to retire. Read was a member of the Millington Lion's Club and loved spending time with the members at all their functions. Read was a hard worker and took pride in every project he tackled. His hobbies included rebuilding classic cars, fishing, wood working, going to car shows and car cruises and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his companion and best friend, Tina Zabetakis of Millington, Md.; one son, Mathew Messick (Sheri) of Milford, step son, Emmanuel Zabetakis (Elizabeth) of Worton, Md.; two sisters, Deborah Wester of Milton, Cindy Adkins of Bridgeville; one brother, Dale Messick of Dover; and four grandchildren, Avery Messick of Milford, Jackson, Jameson and Lily Zabetakis all of Worton, Md. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday July 29, 2016 at 5 p.m. at Fellows Family Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St. Millington, Md. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. prior to the service.
