Ray Allen Messick

MILFORD - Ray Allen Messick, Sr. passed away peacefully at the Delaware Hospice Center on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.
Mr. Messick was born in Bridgeville to the late Norman and Hannah (Mitchell) Messick. He worked for 49 years with Mil-Del Overhead Door on McColley St., in addition to driving a truck for them part-time.
Ray was a very hard worker and a very loving person. He never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, telling jokes, and going to Wawa.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tami Layton; brothers, Jimmy Messick, Norman 'Jr' Messick, Ralph Messick, and Harold Messick; sisters, Eliza Elliott and Virginia Lee Hickman.
He is survived by his wife Pamela 'Pam' Messick; children, Casey Allen Messick, Ray Allen Messick, Jr., Tonda Hindanock, and Lew Messick; brothers, Gardner Messick and Ernest Messick; sisters, Marie Bertrand, Nancy Hammond, Sandra Betts, and Doris Donaway; grandchildren, Madison Rae Holder, Zachary J. Holder, Heather Marble, and Lucas Messick; special niece, Brenda Messick; best friend, Danny Rodgers; as well as many other friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front. St., Milford, DE 19963, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray's memory can be made to: Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
