Phyllis A. Ruark

MILTON - Phyllis A. Ruark (Hansen) passed away peacefully Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Beebe Medical Center.
Phyllis was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Ruth Weiner Ledahl and Charles (Karree) Hansen.
As a teenager, Phyllis would spend her summer vacation in Milford. She loved the country life. Shortly after graduating from Sarah J Hale High School in 1966, she returned to Delaware, where she met her husband, Charles R. Ruark, of 41 years. Phyllis didn't know a stranger and would help anyone she could. She was a friend and mother to many. After 24 years of service at Casa San Francisco, as an after-school program coordinator for H.O. Brittingham Elementary and liaison to the homeless, she retired to care for her ailing husband.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Charles R. Ruark (2009); and infant son (1976).
She is survived by two children, Robert E. Ruark and Carrie M. Ruark; four granddaughters, Lauren Ashleigh Ruark, Carissa J. Stevens, Rayne Ruark and Sydney Ruark; her adopted grandchildren, Tiffiany Galvez, Elizabeth Galvez, Miguel Zamora, David Zamora and Jason Zamora; one brother, John Ledahl; two sisters, Lillian Ledahl and Bunny Matheny; as well as Best Friend, Gerald Collin.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, with a time of visitation starting at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
