Philip William Torbert, 85 MILFORD - Philip William Torbert, of Milford, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 85. Mr. Torbert was born on June 10, 1924, in Milford, son of the late Cornelius Oscar and Elsie Inskeep Landing Torbert. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving his country during World War II. Mr. Torbert was employed for 30 years as a heating and air conditioning technician for N.B. Downing, now Peninsula Oil, retiring from his trade in 1990. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Caroll Torbert. He is survived by a son, Louis W. Torbert of Milford; four daughters; Laura Davis of Milford, Nancy Griffin and her husband Ronnie of Savannah, Ga., Linda L. Summers and her husband Ron of Oxford, Pa., and Doris A. Baker of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Richard Torbert of Milford; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends called from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 1, at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford. A graveside service was held noon, Saturday, at the Milford Community Cemetery on North Walnut Street. Burial with military honors followed the service there. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Letters of condolence may be emailed at www.delmarvaobits.com/rogers.
