Paul N. Kertiles

DOVER - Paul N. Kertiles passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at Westminster Health Center, Dover. He was 91. Mr. Kertiles was born June 14, 1922 in Dover to the late Nicholas Kertiles and Bona Vatick Kertiles. Mr. Kertiles loved his family, enjoyed a wide circle of friends, was committed to his community and served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Amphibious Forces. He was a past chief and life member of the Dover Fire Company. He was a founding father of the Delaware Veterans Post #2. He owned and operated the Towne Tavern/Old Town Pub for 35 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Harriette Fotias; and his brother, Speros "Buster" Kertiles. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marietta Farr Kertiles of Dover; his sister, Goldie Legates of Dover; daughters, Paula Hastings of Dover and Pamela Swain of Smyrna; grandchildren, Taylor and Matthew Swain. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Dover Fire Company, 103 S. Governors Avenue, Dover, DE 19904.
