MILFORD - Surrounded by her family in her final hours, God welcomed home Patricia Mary Venett on Oct. 20, 2018.
Patricia was born on Feb. 24, 1943 in Reading, Pa. to Edward and Myrtle Ney. Pat attended Muhlenberg High School and then went on to graduate from Albright College and earned her Master's Degree from Salisbury University in Reading Education. She began her teaching career at Salisbury Township High School, near Allentown, Pa., where she also coached girl's high school basketball for two years. After a short time teaching in Smyrna, Pat and Emmett moved to Milford where Pat would spend the majority of her teaching career at Lakeview and Lulu Ross Elementary Schools. She retired in 2002 after a more than 30 year teaching career.
A natural athlete, Pat went to two national competitions with the Delaware Blue Chicks softball team. She also participated in track, volleyball and softball with the Senior Olympics and treasured the friendships she made during her time competing. Pat had a great love of the outdoors; she enjoyed waterskiing during the summers and snowmobiling in the winters at her vacation home on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. She sustained her house with great organization while her husband left for long periods of time in the military and managed all the challenges of single parenting, like trips to the emergency room and taxiing the kids to their various activities.
Pat was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle, and father, Edward, of Muhlenberg Township, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, Col. Emmett Venett (Ret.); two children, daughter, Stacy V. Wright and husband Stephen; and son, Steven E. Venett and wife Ashley; a sibling, David Ney and wife, Marilyn of Harrisburg, Pa.; and a sister-in-law, Claire Venett of Metuchen, N.J. Pat has been blessed with three grandchildren, Brian Wright, Audrey Venett and Amara Venett, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the sanctuary of Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Ave., Milford on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. A time of visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Milford Community Cemetery.
