Patricia 'Patsy' A.
Burton, 80
Patricia "Patsy" Burton, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, in her home with her loving family by her side. Patsy was born in Milton, Delaware, the daughter of Joseph and Louise (Atkins) Reed. Graduate of the Class of 1959 Milton High School.
Patsy worked for 40 years at Draper King Cole as a data processor operator and devoted her life to her work. After closure of King Cole, Patsy started working for the Cape Henlopen School District. Retiring from her position there in the district office with almost perfect attendance for the 17 years she was employed with Cape.
Patsy was a life member of the Milton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and held several offices, including President, over 46 years of service. She was devoted to the auxiliary and always active and willing to serve and support the fire service. In 2019, she was inducted into the Hall of Recognition for the Auxiliary of the Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association. She was also a member and held the office of Secretary for the Milton Historical Society.
In addition to being preceded in death by her parents; she was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Jay Burton.
Patsy is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Ray; her sister, Carolyn (Gene) Williams of Cambridge, Md. and their daughter Kimberly Paige Cohan and her son Dawson; their son Joey (Annie) Williams and their sons Layne & Peyton; brother-in-law John (Betty) Burton and their children Sara Cawley, Sharon Eckenrode, David Burton and Stacey Fowler; sister-in-law Kay (Eddie) Koppel and their children Dottie Lank and Donna Koppel; and several great nephews, great nieces and godchildren. Along with her family, she is survived by a circle of many beloved friends; classmates of '59, King Cole family, Cape family, Milton Fire Department auxiliary family, Broadkill Beach gang and her lifelong friends that loved her dearly. We would like to send a special thank you to our dear friends and caregivers Bonnie McIlvain and Frank & Laura Payton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Goshen Cemetery on Chestnut Street, Milton, Del. As required by revised mandates during the pandemic, masks will be required for the health and safety of the family and those in attendance.
