FELTON - Oscar J. Letterman passed away on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 at the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. He was the son of the late, John Franklin and Fannie Louella Letterman.
Mr. Letterman served his country proudly in the United States Army and served during the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart. Mr. Letterman worked as a grocery clerk for over 40 years. He was a hard worker who enjoyed what he did. In his free time, he loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed reading western novels and newspapers. He enjoyed bird watching, and always kept the bird feeders outside his windows full for them. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spoiling them.
Mr. Letterman's personality was that of a jokester. He had a great personality and could make you laugh by joking and kidding around with you. He could strike up a conversation with a stranger and was never shy to do so. He leaves a legacy of being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed and cherished.
Mr. Letterman was a member of the Del Vets Post #2 of Dover, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy L. Letterman; sons, Ronald Letterman, Mark (Judy) Letterman, David (Christine) Letterman; daughter, Kathy Schmitt; eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will take place at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, on Friday, March 2, 2018, at 12 p.m., with a visitation for family and friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at the Sharon Hills Cemetery, Dover.
Arrangements are by the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, Inc., Harrington. Visit us at www.melvinfuneralhome.com to send flowers or sign condolence book.
