ELLENDALE - Norman Layton, 83, of Ellendale, passed away at Bayhealth Medical Center, Milford, on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. He was born in Roxanna, son of the late Archie and Gertrude Layton. He was a home fuel oil truck driver for over 25 years prior to his retirement. Norman was a lifetime member of the Ellendale Fire Company and also a lifetime member of the Delaware State Fire Police Association. Mr. Layton was one of seven children and all siblings have preceded him in death, except for the oldest and the youngest. His wife, Gwendolyn Layton; and step-daughter, Cheryl Wooten Goldsmith; also preceded him in death. He is survived by three children, Peggy Clausen (Ralph), Penny Rogers (Robert, Jr), Norma Lee Reed (companion Gary Johnson); step-children, Sharon Mitchell (Whitlaw), Karen Wooten, Ray Wooten (Cindy), Jeffrey Wooten, Beverly Wooten (fiancé Donald Haymond); the granddaughter he raised, Anastasia Wooten; sister, Louise Archer; brother, Blaine Layton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Ellendale Fire Company, 302 Main St, Ellendale, Delaware, 19941 where friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for a time of visitation. Interment will be at the Ellendale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Ellendale Fire Company at the above address. Arrangements in the care of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford.
