FELTON - Norman Kristic Sr., of Felton, died on April 18, 2012. He was 78. He was born April 29, 1933, in Detroit, Mich., son of the late George and Milka Kristic. As a child, he and his mother visited the former Yugoslavia where both his parents were born. They were not able to return until after World War II spending the entire war in Serbia where he received his primary education. He was fluent in the Serbian language and the Cyrillic alphabet. Upon his return to the United States, he graduated from Northern High School and Wayne State University in Detroit. He received a Masters Degree from Troy State University, Montgomery, Ala., and is also a graduate of Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the Air War College in residence. In November 1984, he retired from the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel and a Command Pilot with over 11,000 flight hours. Among the many assignments was one tour in Vietnam where he flew 100 missions and received two Air Medals. At Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, he served as a C-5 Pilot Flight Examiner, Squadron Chief Pilot, Chief of C-5 Flight Simulator Training and Commander of the 436th Transportation Squadron. Upon his retirement from the Air Force he continued teaching the C-5 Pilots as a member of Flight Safety Services Corporation at Dover Air Force Base C-5 flight simulator program accumulating over 20,000 hours. In the early 1980's, he was very active in the Felton community with Little League and Boy Scouts. Both of his sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He received the Felton Community Appreciation Award. He is also named in the Marquis "Who's Who in the East," 1980 edition, and in the "Men of Achievement," International Biographical Center, Cambridge, England, 1980 edition, v. seven. During the Bosnian civil and religious war, Mr. Kristic wrote a number of published articles protesting the extremely biased and one-sided U.S. media reporting against the Serbian people. An avid hunter, Norm accumulated quite a collection of big game, upland and waterfowl trophies. Along with routine hunting trips in the United States, his quests for such trophies took both he and his son Stephan on expeditions to New Brunswick, Canada; the South Island of New Zealand, the Limpopo Province of South Africa and the Bavarian Region of Germany ... Waidmannsheil! Norm was also a dedicated wildlife and environmental conservationist, with memberships to organizations like Ducks Unlimited, Safari Club International and The National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn; and their son, Norman Jr. He is survived by his son, Stephan James Kristic of Felton; and Norman Jr.'s wife, Kimberly Kristic, with grandchildren Norman "Trey" Kristic III and Paige Elizabeth Kristic of Charleston, W.Va.; as well as long time companion, Esther Belliveau of Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2012. Main service will be held at Torbert Funeral Home on Tuesday May 1, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. Following the main service there will be a Honor Guard Service at the Funeral Home and then a final farewell at Bear Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
