WESTMINSTER, Md. - Mildred Tyler Bean of Westminster, formerly of Cambridge, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at the Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster. She was 89.
She was born in Cambridge on May 18, 1918, daughter of the late Allen and Frances (Buckley) Tyler.
Mrs. Bean attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1935 and took advanced classes in interior design at the Maryland Institute, Baltimore.
On Jan. 1, 1937, she married Matthew C. Bean Sr. They made their home in Cambridge until 1942, at which time they moved to Towson. In 1980, they moved to Seaford, Del.
Mrs. Bean had been a member at St. Stephen"s Church, Towson, from 1944 until 1978, and then transferred her membership to Grace United Methodist church on North Charles Street, Baltimore. After moving to Seaford in 1980, she transferred to St. John"s United Methodist Church, Seaford.
Mrs. Bean was past president of the Baltimore Yacht Club Mates from 1964-66, member of the Three Arts Country Club of Homeland, Country Club of Maryland and was a member of the Towson-Uptown Lioness Club.
While living in Seaford, she was a charter member and director of the Seaford Lioness Club, Acorn Club and past treasurer of the Nanticoke River Yacht Club, Historical Society and leader of the Mary-Martha Circle of St. John"s United Methodist Church in 1986.
Mrs. Bean had been a resident at the Beverly Nursing Center for the past three years and was in failing health several months when she passed away.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Calvin Bean Jr.; and a brother, A. Russell Tyler.
Mrs. Bean is survived by a daughter, Arden Tyler Bean Bothe of Winchester, Va.; seven grandchildren, Marshall Tyler Bowling, Holly Lee Bowling Marshall, Nicole Kerin Porter, Cortney Tyler Silk, Travis Bean, Troy Bean and Trevor Bean; a step-grandson, Scott Patrick Bothe; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge, with Monsignor Martin Field officiating.
Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 114 Baptist St., Salisbury MD 21801.
