Michael 'Mike' Jay Moore, 45

RIDGELY, Md. - Michael "Mike" Jay Moore, of Ridgely, died peacefully on Wednesday, July, 22, 2009, after a short illness surrounded by his parents and friends at the Memorial Hospital of Easton. He was 45. He was born July 31, 1963, in Easton, to William J. and Shirley Lane Moore of Ridgely. Mr. Moore was a 1982 graduate of North Caroline High School. He was employed as a truck driver for United Propane of Easton. He was blessed with mechanical abilities and in his spare time he worked on small engines, with lawn mowers being his specialty. When time allowed he enjoyed trips to Lancaster Amish area. He was a devoted member of the Ridgely Volunteer Fire Company. He joined the fire department at the age of 14 as a cadet He served as president, vice president and as a member of the RVFC Board of Directors. Mike was also a member of the Caroline County Volunteer Fireman's Association serving as their president and vice president. He was a delegate to the Maryland State Fireman's Convention, enjoying the convention over the last couple of years. He also represented Caroline County in the State Honor Guard flag presentation. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandmother, Helen M. Lane of Ridgely; aunt and uncle, Beverly and Jack Blake of Hudson, N.Y.; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Spencer and Annie Moore; and maternal grandfather, H. Chester Lane. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 27, at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where a visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Interment will be in Ridgely Cemetery, Ridgely. Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgely Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 425, Ridgely, MD 21660.
