Mary Alice Bailey, 78

DOVER - Mary Alice Bailey, of Dover, passed away on Monday June 22, 2009 at home surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer. She was 78. Mary Alice was born April 3, 1931, in Powell, Wyo., the daughter of Carlton L. and Margaret Blendt of Stanton. She retired from the Pension Office, State of Delaware. After retirement Mary Alice and her husband spend many winters at their place in Bradentown, Fla. Mary Alice was a member of Peoples Church in Dover. She enjoyed working on both print and online crossword puzzles. She was a serious baseball fan and an avid reader and loved spending time with her family. Mary Alice was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Carlton Blendt of Townsend. She is survived by her husband, Edward D. Bailey; three sons, Donald Bailey of Erial, N.J., Robert Bailey of Forest Hill, Md., and Brian Bailey of Dover. She is also survived by five grandchildren. Friends may call at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 27, at Peoples Church on N. Bradford St. A Christian service will follow at 11 a.m. Christian burial will follow the service at Sharon Hills cemetery in Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way STE 205, New Castle, DE 19720. Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 South Main Street Smyrna. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
