MILFORD - Mary Adelaide Sheaffer of Milford died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 91.
Mrs. Sheaffer was born in Mount Crawford, Va., daughter of the late Rev. Samuel W. and Daisy (Barrier) Beck.
She attended Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pa.
Mrs. Sheaffer married in 1934 and moved to Milford in 1937.
She and her husband established Economy Auto Supply Inc., Milford, which they owned and operated for 50 years.
Mrs. Sheaffer was a volunteer with the Milford Hospital Auxiliary and could frequently be seen pushing a cart through the hospital.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Milford, where she served as trustee and was involved with the Women"s Association.
She was an avid golfer and charter member of the Shawnee Country Club and its ladies" bridge club, and a member of the Old Rehoboth Golf and Country Club and the Palm-Aire Golf and Country Club, Pampano Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Sheaffer enjoyed her weekly sewing circle, being a part of the Milford Senior Center, the walkers group at Milford Skating Center and attending the Evergreen Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Rice; a 3-month-old son, Robert W. Scheaffer in 1942; and three sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Gallagher of Milford; a son and a daughter-in-law, Jack and Mary Lou Sheaffer, both of Milford; five grandchildren, Tammy Herd with whom she lived and who was her caregiver, Susan Brennan, Lara Lee, Elle Sheaffer and John Sheaffer; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leslie Eugene Beck of Clemens, N.C.
Services will be noon Thursday in the First Presbyterian Church, Walnut and S.E. Front streets, Milford, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 172, Milford, DE 19963; or the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or a charity of choice.
