Mark Gordon Campbell

CAMDEN - Our beloved Mark Gordon Campbell, Sr. passed away Saturday May 12, 2018 at Penn Medicine, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was born April 4, 1964 in Bridgeton, N.J. to the late Bob Gene Campbell, Sr. and survived by his mother, Beatrice G. Hepner Campbell.
After graduating high school, he proudly served his country for 23 years (1982-2005), retiring as a Master Sergeant in the USAF. He began his career as a Jet Engine Mechanic and was later cross trained into the Flight Engineer career field where he served on the C-5 cargo planes. He was lovingly referred to as "Soup" by his military friends. Mark loved to travel and his profession allowed him to see beautiful countries, as well as, war zones to include: Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. Mark was decorated with a multitude of medals of Honor including the Meritorious Service Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal and the AF Accommodation Medal.
After retiring, Mark initially worked as a Realtor with Keller Williams; however, with his heart still in aircraft, he transitioned to PATS Aircraft in Georgetown, DE as a Senior Planner. In 2014, he graduated from Wilmington University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Network Security. Using his field of study, he began his new career at CSC in Newark, DE as an Information Security Analysis until his illness set in.
Mark was a laid back man of high integrity who loved life, his family, Harley Davidson motorcycle, and dogs. He always had a smile on his face, laughter in his voice, and love in his heart. He was a true music lover and recently began a new woodworking hobby. His favorite vacation spots were Alaska and Kauai, Hawaii.
Mark is survived by his wife of 15 years, Lisa Heather Torbert Campbell of Camden; children, Matthew Bennett and wife Billie Ann, Angela Quinn, Mark Gordon Campbell Jr., Melinda Campbell and husband Andrew Irvin, and Christopher Torbert Schellinger and wife Angie; siblings, Linda Costello and husband Wayne, Bob Campbell and wife Pamela, Joyce Campbell-Cobb and husband Ricky Cobb, Ken Stidham and wife Cynthia; grandchildren, Abbey, Chloe, and Jay Jay Quinn, Seth and Morgan Ramsey, and Casher Schellinger; grandparents, George and Flossie Stidham and William and Helen Hepner; and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Mark's life will be held Saturday May 26th at 10:30 a.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel located at 1145 E. Lebanon Rd (Rt 10) Dover. The viewing will be held Friday May 25 from 4-8 p.m. and the funeral/ Donations can be made to the wonderful organization, Delaware Hospice at 911 S. Dupont Hwy. Dover, DE 19901.
