Marjorie W. Davis

FREDERICK COUNTY, Va. - Marjorie "Marge" W. Davis died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Davis was born in 1945 in Laurel, the daughter of the late William "Bill" and Ruth Wharton. Marge graduated from Laurel High School, Class of 1963 and Shepherd College earning a Bachelor's degree in Education. She had been a teacher at various schools in Frederick County, Va., prior to retiring from Indian Hollow Elementary. She often remarked about her many happy memories in the Frederick County School System. Faith was very important to Marge. She attended First Baptist Church in Winchester most of her life. In her time there, she developed many lasting relationships. As an avid reader, Marge always had a book in her hand and belonged to a local book club. Among her many gifts, painting was one. She was a "birder", knowing the many types of birds by sound and sight that visited her lovely garden. Marge and her husband were members of Lions Club International, this was her true passion. They traveled extensively throughout the world promoting the values of Lionism. An esteemed speaker, she inspired and educated many within this organization. She was also a member of the Children's First Lions Club. Marge married Wayne E. Davis on Aug. 19, 1967 at Trinity Church in Laurel. Surviving with her husband of 49 years is a son, Scott Davis and partner, Michael, of Beaufort, S.C.; sisters, Eileen Furnish and husband, Martin, of Lewes, and Bonnie "Susie" Demsey, of Dagsboro; brother, George Wharton and wife, Mary Jo, of Laurel; and brother-in-law, Terry Davis and wife, Lisa, of Stephens City, Va. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, 1260 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, Va., followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. with Pastor Kristen Adkins Whiteside officiating. A reception will follow the service at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. Interment will be Monday, Sept. 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Va.
