Marjorie Ressler

CAMDEN - Marjorie Ressler passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2016 at Silverlake Nursing Home. Mrs. Ressler was born Oct. 13, 1928 in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Cyrus Lewis Dirickson and Frances Hunter Dirickson. She graduated from Amherst High School in 1946. Marjorie and her family arrived in Dover in 1958 and worked as a bookkeeper for a local family business. This also began a lifelong dedication to help and serve others. Marjorie has impacted the lives of children, families and seniors by her volunteer efforts. She was a member of the Reformation Lutheran Church in Milford. She was a 50 plus year member, and two time past president, of The Dover Century Club, also the Delaware State Federation of Women's Club. Marjorie was the Women's Initiative Spokesperson for the State of Delaware for nine years. She received The Andrus Award for 2007 from the AARP for her efforts in education and health for seniors. Marjorie was a member of the Kent County Theatre Guild for over 40 years, including serving on the Board of directors and President. She was a skilled actress and director. Her passion for the theatre and love of children resulted in The Children's Theatre. Marjorie and Ted were two of the founders of The Children's Theatre, and her talent and skills in the theatre has benefited hundreds of youths. Marjorie and Ted also enjoyed performing as clowns or Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as taking part in Old Dover Days. Marjorie enjoyed traveling especially her annual family fishing trips to Canada, also photography and making quilts. An adventurous spirit was present as she sometimes celebrated her birthday with a hot air balloon ride or an aerial tour of Kent County via crop duster, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Herbert Avery and Theodore Ressler; brothers, Cyrus and William Dirickson; sister, Rebeka Sturgis. She will be dearly missed by her sons, Bruce Avery, of Dover, Mark Avery (Marguerite), of Syossett, N.Y., Tom Avery (Ranelle), of Dover; daughter, Sue Kepley, of Viola; stepsons, Bill Ressler (Dawn), of Virginia Beach, Va., Ken White (Chris), of Doylestown, Pa.; and stepdaughter, Annie Gregson, of Burlington, Vt.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior.
