Mamie M. Blake, 83
DENTON, Md. - Mamie M. Blake, of Denton, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2008, in the Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 83.
Born in Northampton County, Va., Mrs. Blake was the daughter of the late William Simmons and Matilda Wilson-Simmons.
Her husband, Henry Blake Jr., passed away May 28, 2007.
She was a resident of Denton and previously lived in Easton.
Mrs. Blake had been educated in Northampton County and the Mary Knottingham public school system.
She moved to Easton in 1960, where she became a member of the Greater Mount Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bethlehem for 40 years. There she was baptized in Jesus' name and received the gift of the Holy Spirit. She then joined the senior choir, the senior usher board, and served as a missionary.
Mrs. Blake enjoyed reading her Bible, singing church hymns, being among her church family and talking about the goodness of the Lord.
Her various employments included Merrimac Cleaners in Easton for 15 years and Ayer's Colonial Laundry for six years.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Blake of Chestertown; a grandchild; and a great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Blake leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Ellen Moses-Farrare and her husband of Millersville, and Veronica Blake-Garcia of Denton; one son, Lorenzo Washington of Machipongo, Va.; two sons-in-law, William Farrare Jr. and Enrique Garcia; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Greater Mount Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bethlehem, where friends may call one hour before the service.
Interment will be in Richards Memorial Park on Hammond Street in Easton.
Arrangements by the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton.
