Mabel Elizabeth Dean Jarvis left us on Saturday April 28, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ireland Dean and William Charles Dean; her husband and love of her life, Fred Jarvis; three brothers and one sister.
She has left to cherish her memory her son, John Jarvis; grandchildren, Brad Jarvis (Lauren) and Kate Vocke (Eric); her daughter-in-law, Nancy Jarvis; her sister, Ramona Hubbard; and her niece and caregiver, Teresa Givens; nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Born and reared in Greensboro, Md., she had worked in Baltimore at Glen L. Martin during World War II, in Greensboro at the Post Office, and built the Oasis night club which was the Veterans of Foreign War Post that closed in recent years.
After moving to Dover in 1958, she handled all of the office duties required by Fred's position with Combined Insurance Company, retiring in 1969. She was the longest living resident of the Isle of Wight Community in Ocean City moving there in 1952 and spending every summer there and many winters starting in 2002 when her beloved Fred passed.
Mabel's passion was golfing; the friends she made were among her life's longest and most enduring. In 1969, she was the Ladies Champion at Maple Dale Country Club in Dover, and she stopped playing just four years ago at the age of 92. Possessing a great sense of humor, she always had a joke, often a "little ornery", her friendships spanned generations, and her family loyalty unshakeable.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 2 p.m. at her "third home", the Ocean City Gold Club at 11401 Country Club Rd. Berlin, Md. and we encourage everyone to share in this remarkable woman's memory. The burial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, take your favorite person to dinner and have a toast to "Mom".
