LEXINGTON, S.C. - LoRe W. Roof of Lexington passed away Thursday, June 21, 2007, after a long illness. She was 83.
Mrs. Roof was born to David and May (Belle) Waits, the oldest daughter of eight siblings.
She was a homemaker and quite active in the local community.
Mrs. Roof was a member of Pisgah Lutheran Church, a member of the Missionary Society and a Sunday school teacher for 35 years.
She was quite active with her husband in scouting and was the first woman in South Carolina to receive the Boy Scouts of America Wife"s Award.
Mrs. Roof was a co-founder of the Week Day Church School that served much of western Lexington County.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Wilbur and Buford Waits; and her sister, Clara Rawl.
She leaves behind a loving and devoted husband of 62 years, George W. Roof; a daughter, Angela Avery and her husband Buck of Lexington; and a son, George Steven and his wife Connie of Magnolia, Del.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Luther of Lexington; and her sisters, Corine Shealy of Aiken, Rachel Weed of Columbia, and Evelyn Taylor and Carolyn McCartha, both of Lexington.
Services were held at Pisgah Lutheran Church, Lexington.
Arrangements are handled by Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington.
