MILFORD - Leta Griffith Cooper, age 66, prominent social worker, family and individual therapist in DE, PA and WV for 35 years, died January 8th at the Delaware Hospice in Milford. A native of Emporium, Pa., Ms. Cooper was best known as a compassionate, intelligent therapist who treated troubled families and individuals, to whom she invariably gave her unconditional acceptance and support.Ms. Cooper earned her undergraduate degree in Social Work at the University of West Virginia, and went on to earn a master's degree in Social Work. She practiced at various locations in PA and DE, and later taught at Delaware State University and at Delaware Technical Community College. Recently, she had been working as a clinical supervisor and counselor at Middletown Counseling Center in Middletown, DE. She never really retired, and worked until August when she became ill. She was well known for her boundless personal generosity and kindness, personally as well as professionally. Ms. Cooper's main interest in life was always her active and consistent support of her son. With her help and encouragement, he became a chef and graduate from college. He and his wife now live in Seaford, DE. They have three children: Suzanne, Curtis and Ashleigh, who have been the joy of Ms. Cooper's life. Her son has worked successfully for 10 years as a Sales Professional at a Sleepy's Mattress Store. Surviving, in addition to Ms. Cooper's son and grandchildren, are her siblings: Donald, Dale, Linda, and Martin, and their children and grandchildren. A celebration of Ms. Cooper's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 15th at Christ Lutheran Church, 315 N. Shipley Street, Seaford, DE 19973-2315 (Phone 302-629-9755).
