Lester S. Moore, 95
HARRINGTON - Lester S. Moore of Harrington died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 95.
Mr. Moore was born in Lewes, son of the late Joseph and Mary Jane Moore.
Mr. Moore started with the Bond Bread General Baking Co. in 1931. He started out as a salesman with a delivery route. He was a no-nonsense salesman and others looked up to him by the example that he set. Mr. Moore soon became a foreman and was considered one of the best foremen that Bond Bread ever had. He left Bond Bread in January of 1970.
He went to work for Clements Supply and Hardware Co. for the next six years. After that, he went to work for Felton Hardware part time in February of 1977, until he retired in December of 1990. At whatever job he worked, Mr. Moore gave 110 percent because he loved what he did and he loved to work.
In his spare time, Mr. Moore enjoyed gardening and had a garden every year until the ripe age of 91. He took great pride in his garden and he loved sharing his produce. Mr. Moore also liked to rabbit hunt and shared the rabbits with family and friends. A great passion and talent of his was woodworking. He was gifted with the ability to craft things out of wood and repair anything. He shared his talents with a grandson who later turned that craft into his livelihood.
Mr. Moore will be remembered as a person of great integrity and honesty. He taught his family and co-workers these traits by his work ethic and how he treated others. He taught his children the proper way to live their lives and how to manage their time and budgets. Most of all, he was a great provider and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert I. Moore.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Madalene Moore; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Ruth and Bob L. Herring of Locust Grove, Va., and Elizabeth and Everett Kennedy of Sudlersville, Md.; a brother, Clifford Moore of Milford; a sister, Margaret Moore of Rehoboth Beach; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Highway, Harrington, where friends may call one hour earlier.
