Smith, 66 GREENWOOD - Lester R. 'Big Boy' Smith, died in his home surrounded by his family on Friday, June 22, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Lester was born in Milford, on Nov 16, 1945, the son of the late John and Sylva Smith. He was a member of Cannon Mennonite Church and the Mid-Atlantic Cherokee Nation. He enjoyed his native American heritage participating in Pow Wows and making most of his regalia himself. He had very strong work ethics, making sure everything was just done right. He worked for a local masonry company for 23 years, then formed his own company for the next 23 years. Lester was an avid gardener having planted the most beautiful garden ever this year. He enjoyed southern gospel music, fishing, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Jimmy, Donald and Gary; and one sister, Marsha. He is survived by his wife of 39½ years, Ruthella Schrock Smith; three sons and their spouses, Lester R. 'Tony' and Sherri Smith of Felton, Mike and Trisha Smith of Greenwood, and Robert and Laura Smith of Laurel; one daughter, Peggy Cole of Felton; one brother, John Smith of Laurel; two sisters, Dottie and Harry Aiken, and Dolly Sue Banks, both of Georgetown; one foster sister, Carol and Gary Piekarch, of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call on Monday, June 25, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cannon Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at church cemetery. Donations may be made to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Dr., #302, Newark, DE 19713. Arrangements by Fleischauer Funeral Home.
