Leroy C. 'Buck' Jones, 82
WESTOVER, Md. - Leroy C. "Buck" Jones of Westover died Monday, April 9, 2007, in his home. He was 82.
Mr. Jones was born in Harrisburg, Pa., on Sept. 7, 1924, son of the late Norman and Mildred (Staub) Jones.
He received his bachelor's degree in education from West Chester State College and then received his master's degree in administration.
Mr. Jones was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during World War II.
After the war, he began working as a teacher at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School for 16 years. He then worked at John F. Kennedy High School, Wheaton, for 17 years before retiring in 1988. During his tenure at both schools, he taught physical education as well as coached both football and baseball.
Mr. Jones enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Norma Jean Jones; three sons, Robert L. Jones and his wife Diana of Federalsburg, Kevin E. Jones and his wife Marissa of Westminster, and Bradley N. Jones and his wife Rosemarie of Eldersburg; a daughter, Sue Jean Holleger and her husband Randy of Milford; a sister, Ellen Heckman of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either the American Cancer Society, 9 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720; or to the Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733.
