Lawrence E. Roy II, 67 HARTLY - Lawrence E. Roy II, of Hartly, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at home. He was 67. Mr. Roy was born Dec. 17, 1942, in Alton, Ill., to the late Lawrence E. Roy Sr. and Vera Roy. He owned and operated an auto body repair shop and used car dealership in Illinois buying and repairing used cars and restoration of Antique cars for 38 years. Mr. Roy retired and moved with his wife to Dover in 1997. Mr. Roy had a Real Estate and Brokers License and worked for McGinnis Realty, Keller Williams Realty and currently with Bay Coast Realty. He attended Maranatha Baptist Church in Dover. He was a CASA volunteer, Heart Ball volunteer for the American Heart Association. Mr. Roy was active with Shepherd Place. He would volunteer his time and collect food and deliver it to local shelters and families in need. Mr. Roy is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sonja Roy of Hartly; children, Brenda Stewart and husband Phil of Hartly, Raymond Vass and wife Sheryl of Pensacola, Fla., Chris Vass of Hamilton, Ill., Lawrence Roy III and wife Jodi of Dover, Laura Roy and fiancé Anthony Konrad of Dover, Jared Roy and wife Monica of Des Moines, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, Benjamin, Pamela, Tristen, Megan, Joshua, Jeremy and Cody, Natasha, Gabriel, Alexandra, Josephine, Grace, Selma, and Jonas; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Austin, Taylor, and Foster; and his sister, Carol Mann of Carthage, Ill. Funeral services will be noon, Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10) Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Shepherd Place, 1362 S. Governors Avenue, Dover, DE 19904, Maranatha Baptist Church, 605 Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover, DE 19904; Hartly Fire Department, P.O. Box 28, Hartly DE 19953; or the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
