DOVER - Lamont Denemournes Harris, Sr. was born to the late DuPont and Minnie Harris on Jan. 9, 1952, in Dover, and departed his life on Aug. 5, 2011, at the Christiana Medical Center. He attended school in Dover at Booker T. Elementary and William Henry High School. He completed his education in Nemo, S.D., where he graduated. He was active in amateur boxing, winning several golden glove tournaments. Lamont enjoyed playing dominos and spades and had a special love for his sisters and the little ones of whom he lived with. He was famous for his potato salad and his jokes. He was a loving and kind person whose heart was big as this world. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Malcolm, Christfield, Warren and Marvin Harris; a nephew, Demarcus Harris; and a nephew-in-law, Jay Stratton. Lamont is survived by three sons, Anthony (Verneka) Baynard of Middletown, Lamont Harris Jr. of Townsend, Kinwan Redding of Wilmington; and a daughter, Rena (Charles) Ward of Magnolia; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, LaWon Gibson and Floyd Wells of Wilmington, Mary (Willie) Canady of Dover; six nieces, Tanya Jackson of San Antonio, Texas, LaWon Hardy of Virginia, Annette McNeal of Smyrna, Dawn Harris, Tamara Stratton and Lonjya Sells, all of Dover; seven nephews, McKinley Harris and Monell Cobb, both of Philadelphia, Marvin Hardy, Jeff, Lamont, JaRay, and Andy Harris, all of Dover; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, 57 great-nieces and nephews, a host of cousins and friends, three special friends, Armeta Bordley, David King and Charles Bowers (C.B.), and many more. He is gone but never forgotten. We loved him deeply but God loved him best. Services will be noon, Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Bible Way Temple Church of God in Christ, 56 S. Kirkwood St., Dover, where friends may gather two hours earlier. Burial will follow in Whatcoat Cemetery, Dover. Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
