WYOMING - Kenneth LaVere passed away Jan. 19, 2019 at Kent General Hospital in Dover surrounded by family. Mr. LaVere was born on Feb. 25, 1935 in Felton, the son of Harry and Helen LaVere.
A 1953 graduate of Caesar Rodney High School, Ken loved building things, woodworking and was briefly a bricklayer. He then became an electrician and eventually opened his own business, Ken LaVere Electrical Contracting. After several years he closed the business and then worked for Wyoming Concrete as an electrician until his retirement. He was helpful and charitable throughout his life; volunteering as a coach for Little League, assisting with 4H, helping with scouting and serving two terms on the Caesar Rodney School Board. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, boating, skiing and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sylvia; his son Jeffrey (Sandy) LaVere; step daughter, Lynn (Crawford) Melvin; children, Donna (Bobby) DePatis and Scott Alburl; his granddaughters, Kayla and Kylee; and three grandsons; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen (the late Ralph) Mills; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Dorothy, Adele, Marian and Mildred; and his brothers, Harold, Edward, Robert and James.
Funeral Service Friday 12 p.m. at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m.
Memorials may be made to Woodside United Methodist Church, the Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
