DOVER - On Sunday, April 22, at 12:09 p.m. while God's Word was preached from Victory's pulpit, June Edith Austin was called home to be with Jesus as she was resting peacefully in her apartment. Pastor June was born on May 4, 1924, in Auckland, New Zealand, to the late Frederick and Violet (McGilvory) Gould. She was the widow of Ronald Austin and is survived by a sister, Phyllis Mawhinney of Auckland, New Zealand, a son, Alan Gould of Melbourne, Australia, and four grandchildren. Pastor June became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1974 and was employed as a model before working for the U.S. Government in her younger years. Her education in America centered on the Bible, where she graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in Broken Arrow, Okla., in 1976 with perfect attendance. She was ordained a Minister of the Gospel at Turley Pentecostal Evangelistic Center in 1976 and became a Bible Teacher at Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, Okla., before becoming a Pastor of Community Fellowship Church in Chelsea, Okla. She had a gift for teaching the Bible. Since moving to Delaware in 1986, Pastor June helped establish, and was a professor, at the Gary Whetstone Worldwide Ministries School of Biblical Studies under the leadership of Dr. Gary and Pastor Faye Whetstone. Through the hundreds of extension schools and currently through its on line education, Dr. Austin has taught thousands of students who, are changing the world through her course studies. She also was ordained in 1991 as an Associate Pastor by Victory Christian Fellowship in New Castle, Del. In 1993, at the age of 68, she moved to Dover where she became Pastor of Victory's Dover branch church. She was lovingly known as "Mother" to her congregation. This wonderful group of men, women and children became Pastor June's extended family. Pastor June continued to further her education at Chesapeake Bible Seminary where she received a Master's Degree in Christian Ministry and a Doctorate in Religious Education, both in June of 2000. She had a way of making her teachings practical, humorous, and relevant. Pastor June will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her beauty, and her elegance. Her life is greatly appreciated by those she personally mentored and the countless others she referred to as "Dear Hearts". Her life's legacy is found in the following two Bible verses: 2Timothy 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth." And in 2 Timothy 4:6-8 "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing." A Special Tribute Service will be held Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Victory Christian Fellowship, 100 Wilton Blvd, New Castle, DE 19720, at 3 p.m. Her congregation will be conducting a "Celebration of her life" at their 11 a.m., service on Sunday, April 29. No funeral services will be conducted. Please make any contributions to GWWM, designating the Dr. June E. Austin Scholarship Fund.
