DOVER - Joseph Thomas Raymond of Dover, surrounded by his loving family, passed away peacefully at Kent General Hospital on Friday, April 6, 2012. Mr. Raymond was born April 13, 1921 in Harrington. He was predeceased by his parents, Santo and Rachel Raymond; and his sister, Edith Raymond Mozick. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was assigned to the 33rd Signal Communications Battalion. He served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater, including Normandy, France, Battle of the Bulge, and Berlin. Later he served in the Philippines and Osaka, Japan. He received the following decorations- American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, and good Conduct Medals. Mr. Raymond was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars since 1943, Military Order of the Cootie since 1945, the American Legion C.K.R.T. Post #7 since 1945, Loyal Order of the Moose, Harrington Lodge #534, since 1959, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Legion since its inception in 1979. He received the Loyal Order of the Moose Fellowship Degree in 1997. He was also a member of the Church of the Holy Cross in Dover. He retired from the Civil Service at Dover Air Force Base in 1972. He loved to hunt, play cards and spend time with his family and friends. Mr. Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Doris S. Raymond; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph T. Raymond, Jr. and Constance M. Raymond; and two granddaughters, Susan Raymond Damask and her husband Paul Damask, and Jessica B. Raymond; and a niece, Barbara Mozick Lamar and her husband, Robert Lamar; and a nephew, John Mozick, Jr. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming, Del. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Church of the Holy Cross, 631 South State Street, Dover, Del. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in his name to the Church of the Holy Cross, 631 South State Street, Dover, DE 19901, or to the Disabled American Veterans, 183 South Street, Camden, DE 19934.
