CHURCH HILL, Md. - Joseph E. "Sonny" Nadolny of Church Hill died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Chester River Hospital Center. He was 79.

Mr. Nadolny was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Essex, Md., son of the late Joseph John and Irene Grace Mell Nadolny.

He served in Essex with the Civil Defense in his younger years and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, from which he was honorably discharged.

On Sept. 28, 1947, he married Dorothy Mae Borgman. They moved to Kennedyville and Chestertown before later settling in Church Hill.

Mr. Nadolny owned and operated a farm where Chester Harbor, Chestertown is now located. He also owned and operated several gas stations, where he worked as a mechanic. He later drove a truck, working for several years with Phil McDonald in Cordova, from which he retired in 1992.

He enjoyed his family first and foremost. He also loved people, his pets - Freddie the beagle and Blackie the rabbit - trucking stories, country music and cardiac rehabilitation. He was seen by many walking through Church Hill. He was religious, a good samaritan and a tough and fair man.

Mr. Nadolny was a member of the Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36 in Chestertown and a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chestertown.

His wife preceded him in death on March 3, 1992.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph E. Nadolny Jr. of Barclay and John M. Nadolny of Chestertown; two daughters, Linda C. Nadolny-Clough of Barclay and Lori Ann Loughry of Chestertown; four grandchildren, Meg Leigh Loughry, David Mathew Loughry, Jocelyn Rose Jackson and Joseph E. Nadolny III; and a special sister-in-law, Rosealie E. Borgman of Church Hill.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Church Hill Cemetery.
