FELTON - John Wesley Johnson of Felton died of natural causes Wednesday, April 4, 2007 in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 59.
Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 5, 1947, son of the late Edith M. Cannon Johnson Harmon and George Julis Johnson.
He received his education in the Milford School District.
Mr. Johnson was employed as a truck driver for more than 30 years.
He had a passion and love for hats, the Dallas Cowboys football team and the sport of horse racing. He followed the races from state to state, feeding the horses, and every now and then, they fed him.
Mr. Johnson accepted Christ as his personal savior, and made the United Fellowship Ministries his church home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sabrina Carter Irvin; and his stepfather, Spencer Coverdale.
He is survived by his wife, Cora Johnson of Felton, whom he married Aug. 31, 1985; a son, John Ross; four daughters, Carolyn Carter, Melinda Carter, Shannon Johnson and Veronica Johnson; two stepsons, William Johnson and Charles Johnson; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Victoria and Terence Burns and Alfredette Johnson; a goddaughter, Shemeka Summers; a brother and a sister-in-law, George W. and Mary Johnson of Houston; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Marion C. and Marcel Harrigan of Wilmington, Brenda L. and Samuel Harris of Magnolia, Joyce M. and James Spencer of Lincoln, Patricia A. and John Jones of Wilmington, and Maxine R. Johnson and Gertrude J. Johnson, both of Felton; an uncle, William Johnson of Baltimore; an aunt, Lizzie Scott of Smyrna; two devoted friends, Reginald Potts and Fred Trotman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom will cherish his memory.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Milford.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Pentecostal Church of God, Lincoln, where friends also may call two hours earlier.
