John S. Roper, 76

DOVER - John S. Roper, of Dover, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, in his home. He was 76. Mr. Roper was born in Dover on Aug. 22, 1932, to the late C. Kenneth and Mary Kreider Roper. He retired from Diamond State Telephone Company in 1990 with 35 years service. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and attended Trinity Wesleyan Church. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Tommie Lou Roper; a son, John Lane Roper and his wife Wendy of Dover; and two grandchildren, Tyler Lane and Kelsey Morgan Roper; brother, Bill Roper of Smyrna; and sister, Elizabeth Hess of Illinois. There will be a memorial gathering of friends and family at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 6, at Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1564 S. State St., Dover. The family requests no flowers. In lieu memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1564 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901; Kent County SPCA, 34 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934; or Compassionate Care Hospice, 702 B Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805. Arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapels.
