HARBESON, Del. - John Melvin Prettyman, a resident of Sevierville, Tenn., formerly of Harbeson, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at his daughter's home following a long illness. He was born in Delaware, the son of the late Melvin and Molly Prettyman. He was a farmer for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed stock car races, watching movies, listening to Dolly Parton music and chewing gum. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Michele. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Joann; son, John; grandchildren, Chad and B.J.; step-grandchild, Lauren; brother, Francis; as well as nieces and nephews. He is at peace with the Lord now. He is much loved and will be very missed by all who knew him. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, DE 19947, where friends may call after 12:00 noon. Interment will be in Harbeson Cemetery, Harbeson, DE.
