John Homer Hughes Jr.

H. Hughes Jr. DOVER - John "Sonny" Homer Hughes Jr., of Dover, departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Kent General Hospital. He was 78. He was born Sept. 1, 1933, in Dover. He worked for Dover Product Render Plant for many years, and loved hunting, fishing, rooting on the Phillies, and running dogs with Charles Coker. He attended the Mrs. Tatman Fort Branch School. Sonny was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Saunders) Hughes; his parents, John Hughes Sr. and Esther Marie (Carter) Hughes; a brother, Larry D. Hughes; and a sister, Marjorie (Hughes) Mosley. He leaves to mourn his two daughters, Harriett Seeney and her husband Roland of Bridgeton, N.J., and Diane Hughes of Milford; two sons, Larry Hughes of Dover, and Jerry Hughes of South Carolina; four sisters, Esther Glendora Sammons of Dover, Anna Mildred Newman and her husband William of Dover, Edith Pierce of New Jersey, and Charlotte Gaines and her husband John of Cheswold; a brother, Zahn Hughes of Dover; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at the Fort Branch Cemetery, Dover. The family would like to Thank the staff of Delaware Hospice, and Kent General Hospital, for the special care given in their time of need.
