BRIDGEVILLE - John Handy Stanley (affectionately known as "Daddy John") of Bridgeville, was born February 17, 1927 in Sharptown, Md. He departed this life peacefully Sunday, September 6, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends. At 18, he joined the US. Navy and received an honorable discharge. After service he worked for the Dupont Corporation for 32 years and 10 months. John was a member and Deacon of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bridgeville, and was also a member of the American Legion post 269 in Sharptown, Md. He was preceded in death by his parents, Coweal H. and Ida B. Stanley; and one brother, Edward Stanley. He leaves his cherished wife of 29 years, Helen of Bridgeville; one daughter, Ida Lee Fleming of Salisbury, Md.; five grandchildren, Charles Stanley (Jameelah) of Sharptown, Md., Sherise Mobley (Rudy) of Atlanta, Georgia, Eugene Stanley of Sharptown, Md., Marlo Fleming and Shawna Fleming of Owings Mills, Md.; six great grand children. From the union of John and Helen he became a father to Jose Rodriguez of Bridgeville, Corinthia Turner (Lawrence) of Seaford, Tim Banks (Chantel) of Bridgeville, David Banks (Charlotte) of Charleston, South Carolina, and Cynthia Banks of Milford, 21 grandchildren and 11 great grands. He was a brother-in-law to Willie Lee Horton of Bridgeville, Freddie Lee Horton, John D. Horton, Sylvia Rodriquez, Corine Wanda Parker of Seaford, Easter Davis (John) of Greenwood and Jimmy Horton of Oakland California. In addition, he leaves to mourn his departure a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and many friends. A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Zion UMC in San Domingo, Md. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 108 First Street, Bridgeville, DE 19933, with the viewing from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Interment will be held at Milford Community Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make donations to the Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood.
