DOVER - John "Jack" H. Wharton passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. In the days leading to his passing, Jack was surrounded by his devoted family and friends. Jack was born on July 28, 1933 in Dover to Vivian R. "VR" and Harriet (King) Wharton. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korea War and retired from the Delaware State Police after nearly 45 years of service.
Jack will be remembered by family and friends as fun loving, kind, and a dedicated family man. He was proud to call himself a Delawarean, having only lived outside the state during his four years in the U.S. Air Force.
Jack married Joann Carter of Chestertown, Md. on July 18, 1969. He is survived by his wife of 49 years; three children, Kevin, Steven and Hope; eight grandchildren, four siblings and their spouses, Walter and Shirley, Bill and Betty, Grace, Mike and Harriet; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover for visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with services at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 248 E. Chestnut Hill Rd., Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713.
